Tikka 7mm -08
Just bought a new toy and am looking for suggestions on what to load with it. I'm thinking nosler partitions or accubonds in 140 grain. Will be using it primarily for deer. Maybe even the odd bear.
What has been your experience using these and or should i use something else like a 150 or higher grain bullet ? |

140's
I would think the 140's would be the ideal weight...I too have the same rig, actually,it's still in transit to me...
I am gonna go with the 140 Accubonds and RL15 or Varget..keep us posted on how she works for ya |

Bought myself a crony and was very disappointed in what i saw.
Used nosler book and started from the bottom of the scale and worked my way up. Used imr4350 powder and nosler 140grain accubond 42grains about 2200 fps 46grains about 2400 fps factory federal vital shok 2600 fps 140grain bt I was really hoping for around 2800 to 3000 with hand loads. I see some have gone up too 48grains of imr4350 but don't have the experience to know what to look for exactly. On 46grain hand load there wasn't any splitting of cases or any bulged or flattened primers. Whats your thoughts? |

You are shooting a 7-08 not a 7mm Remington Magnum. 2700-2800 may be doable but 3000 fps is above what the 280 Remington is capable of and is treading firmly in 7 mag territory.

45 grains of Varget is 3 grains OVER the maximum load provided by Hodgdon the maker of Varget. It is also 2 1/2 grains over the maximum listed by Nosler for use under the 140 Accubond. Your rifle MAY be able to handle this much powder but then again it may either let go on the first shot or develop head-space problems after a few shots. The signs of excessive pressure include excessive velocity. I have referenced close to a dozen reloading manuals and NONE have shown 140 grain 7-08 loads in excess of 2850 fps much less 3000. Also, these these loads were shot with 24" barrels not the 22 1/2" of your T-3 which should clock in about 50-75 fps less than any listed load. Alliant - the maker of Reloader 19 - shows 50 grains of RL19 to produce 2700 fps a fair way off 3000 fps. Bottom line is don't use data from some guy on an Internet forum until you have verified it for yourself in a couple of current reloading manual.

The last thing i want is a damaged rifle. I will (shoot) for 2700 then. I was just using 3000 as a guess and wasn't planing on that velocity due to poor bullet performance. Seems most people wont comment on questions unless you add a little stupid in there.... |
