Barracuda
G'day Baracuda,
Brisbane is where I'm based these days. However I consider myself a North Queenslander and have lived all over the state. Do you know this part of the world? Regards Rod |

Game in OZ
Just thought I'd attach a couple of photos of game available within 100Kms of where I live. First photo is of a Red Stag I took during the roar this year (April 2008) Rifle used was an FN98 9.3x62 using Norma factory 286gn Alaska's. Scope is a 4x Kahles.
Second photo is of a wild dog (a fair example of a slightly larger than average wild dog/dingo) that I took on the same trip, with the same rifle. Third photo is of my 12yr old son with some rabbits and a hare. Oct/Nov 2007. All hunting in Queensland is on Private property. No hunting on any crown land. NSW (neighbouring State) has plenty of crown land to hunt on and is about a 5 hour drive to the nearest state forest. Hence it is often easier to go to NZ. Plenty of crown land available, plenty of game, an ausssie can hunt unguided, same as a Kiwi. Free access, no bag limits, and no seasons on most game animals. All game in Oz is introduced, there is nothing native to get excited about to hunt. In queensland we have plenty of wild pigs, plus goats, wild horses, wild cattle, wild donkeys, deer (Chital, Red. Fallow, Rusa). In deer (in Qld) I have only hunted Red deer, but in the other game mentioned I've hunted the lot. In other states there are wild Sambar deer, hog deer, fallow, rusa, Red, water buffalo, camel, banteng (wild Javan cattle)and I think thats about it. Of those I've only hunted buff. If I ever get around to getting some of my old photos turned into these digital things I'll put some of them on the site. Enjoy your hunting season. Regards Rod |

Oh man Rod, you now you have gone and done it. My #1 dreamhunt is the Red Stag, I want to put the shoulder mount nose to nose with a BC Rosevelt Elk. Going to Africa first but will plan a trip in the next 2 years to NZ for my stag, thanks for the pics, welcome to the site!
