Kid shoots woman....mistakes her for a bear

http://www.komonews.com/news/26254529.html

I don't care if you're 14 or 70...there is no excuse. Second chances can be a good thing, but if it were up to me, this kid's hunting days are over.

You either know its an animal or you don't. Theres no excuse for "I thought it was an?"

If that was my wife, that kid would be banned from ever hunting and his parents would be charged for negligence.

Hm, I always wonder what really happened when I hear of something as unusual as this. Was there some sort of "incident" between the woman and the boys causing the boys to shoot her. Well likely we'll never know they'd already taken their hunter safety courses, so there' no further training that can be given to make him "safe". He should be convicted of Criminal Negligence and do some time over this.

Very sad indeed. It is one of those never should have happened. I know the area. It is prone to morning fog. I was taught and I still teach identify your target 100% before you squeeze that trigger and send one down range. Once it is gone it can never come back or be stopped. Even though not mentioned in the article, I am wondering on what color clothing the lady was wearing. All to often I see non hunters wearing black in the bush during hunting season. I now that black is very fashionable but leave it at home. I once had a jogger run towards me down a game trail wearing a mid tone brown jogging suit during hunting season complete with a matching knit cap. I let one loose in the ground as he went by, scaring the bloody s@#t (he jumped about 3' high and sideways) out him . I berated him like all beat hell and that he had every right to be dead for wearing what he had on. He thanked me for not killing him and stripped to his skivies and went home which was about 12 miles away .
