Thumbs up Group Buy??

Hey SRUPP ( Steve )

I see in your signature line you are a rep for SPOT. What would do you think they would say to a group purchase by the Huntshoot forum.....I think it would be a great lead in for them on other forums.

What do you think???

Steve's out on the salt-chuck with his much better looking brother and some flatlanders looking for halibut. He may not respond for a few days.

This looks great, Boo! Another couple of question for you if you don't mind. If you subscribe to the tracking is it on whenever the unit is on or are you able to turn it off and on at the unit. Is the page you linked supplied by SPOT when you subscribe? Is there any security on the page possible (password, etc.) or a way to turn the view off and on?

With all the things we do in remote areas, hunting, scout camping trips, even when we are scuba diving, I think this might be a no-brainer!

Wink spot

I can track your spot whether it is on or off LOL just kidding.

I did e-mail spot via yahoo to see if the free activation on tracking applies to Canadians -- will update you all IF they get back to me.

The tracking is totally at your control. You can have it on or not if you wish.

The "share" page can be set up by the user and can be password protected if you wish. You can also set up the "share" page to show your personalized "OK" & "Help" messages if you wish. (On the sample I set up my personalized messages are not showing). You can also show all OK, Help, and tracking info or any combination you want. You can also set up a number of different "share" pages - some password protected and some not -all showing different info and send the links to different people.

BTW, Our units were supplied by GlobalStar "free" along with a years service after we continuously bitched about the non-existent service their Sat phones provide. (They also gave us unlimited Sat time on the phones for $19.99 a month which was sort of redundant as the damn things aren't able to connect at the best of times! ) As the safety of our people is paramount - the reasons for the sat phones in the first place - we needed a fool-proof way for them to call for help if a situation arises or to check in at the end of the day if they were not returning to the office.

Tell "them" a bunch of guys would probably buy from this forum, if they sharpened their pencils........LOL

I can't think of a better way for them to get some great exposure for their product than with a group buy.

hmmm Ill make the enquiry...I have been notified by over 200 individuals that have asked questions and then bought the unit not one complaint or failure to send the required check in or request for help.

Impressed Albertan

Ya Cariboo the flatlanders that were on the Salt chuck/UP-Chuck with the Rupp brothers were very impressed with the spot locater. Before we left Williams Lake Steve showed me a demo of the locater in his backyard and we zoomed right in and could see the truck in the driveway etc. Right away i thought this would be so cool for the family at home to zoom in on us when back in a remote mountain location and to track our daily progress.
I do wonder though that maybe a year or two down the road that possibly they may come up a text option or something for further messaging for the people receiving the signal at your home PC.
The Fishing,,, I highly recommend Gerry for Fishing.he worked his ass off trying to get us into fish in the high roller waters and Dad was beaming with the Halibut he always wanted to catch on the Ocean.
Steve i have a friend wanting a spot locater that does lots of backcountry mountain biking and winter walk in snowboarding as well.
Cheers and great post Garry.

Garry.

Gary,What do you mean "High rollers"? A 15' sea is a calm day on the Pacific. You must have been hiding in a cove... bloody stump farmers...

Glad to hear your Dad landed one of them big flatfish. It can be a real work out getting one of them in the boat. They are the best eating of all the whitefish, in my opinion. Even a "chicken" halibut will give you plenty to eat.

Rifleman your right I cooked some fillets up for the guys at work soon as i got back and they couldn't thank me enough, the best i have ever eaten.

I dont do well on the rougher waters even if you dont consider them big rollers. The first day they took pity on me when i couldn't even reel fish in and we went back in early. The next day it was the patch behind the ear,two bonamine and i was totally fine so now i know the right ingredient for me.
